Agency of the Month: Bright Start
Codington Connects is proud to recognize Bright Start as our Agency of the Month.
Bright Start is a Department of Health program that partners with the South Dakota Foundation for Medical Care to provide high-quality services throughout Codington County and the surrounding region. For over 26 years, Bright Start has supported moms, babies, and families through personalized nurse home visits that promote healthy pregnancies, positive parenting, and strong family foundations. Their mission—working together to promote, protect, and improve health—guides everything they do.
One of the most encouraging aspects of Bright Start’s journey has been its growth and reach across the state. What began in 1999 in Sioux Falls and Rapid City has expanded to serve all 66 counties in South Dakota, including Codington County. Over the years, Bright Start has supported more than 5,000 families, continuing to expand its impact and meet the evolving needs of communities.
Bright Start also recognizes the importance of collaboration in building strong, healthy communities. Their partnership with Codington Connects has allowed them to build meaningful relationships with other local organizations, helping families access the resources and support they need. They have shared how valuable these connections have been and how proud the community should be of the high-quality services available to families in Watertown.
For the team at Bright Start, the most rewarding part of their work is the opportunity to walk alongside families in their own environments. Through in-home visits, nurses can understand each family’s unique experiences, provide compassionate support, and help connect them with resources that improve their overall well-being. Building trust and helping families reach their personal goals makes this work deeply meaningful and impactful.
