Agency of the Month: Midwest Bible Camp

Codington Connects is proud to recognize Midwest Bible Camp as our Agency of the Month. Since 1954, Midwest Bible Camp has been serving the community through faith, compassion, and meaningful support for children, adults, and families across the region.

A Mission Rooted in Hope and Compassion

The mission of Midwest Bible Camp is to bring God’s love and grace to all in our community by providing tangible support, hope, and compassion to those in need. Their work reaches individuals of all ages through Free Camp for Kids events, Recovery Rooms and programs for adults, and a variety of special events designed to strengthen community connection and support.

Through these efforts, Midwest Bible Camp continues to create spaces where people can experience encouragement, belonging, and personal growth.

Serving the Community in More Ways Than Many Realize

Although Midwest Bible Camp has a long history in the area, many community members may not realize the level of involvement they have today.

“Many don’t realize the level of involvement we have in the community,” they shared. “This is due in part because the camp was dormant for years. We’ve heard comments like, ‘We thought the place was abandoned.’”

Today, the organization is actively working to meet needs throughout the community and create opportunities for healing, support, and connection.

The Value of Collaboration Through Codington Connects

Midwest Bible Camp also recognizes the importance of community partnerships and collaboration through Codington Connects.

“Codington Connects provides a nearly exhaustive range of services to the region,” they shared. “This includes the collaboration of various agencies, the caring staff, and many resources the Codington County Community Center provides.”

By working together, agencies and organizations throughout Codington County are helping ensure individuals and families can more easily access the resources and support they need.

Finding Reward in Changed Lives

For the team at Midwest Bible Camp, the most rewarding part of their work is witnessing lives impacted through compassion, care, and support.

“Everything we do is ‘unto the Lord.’ This means our reward is not in this world, but in heaven,” they explained. “However, the earthly reward is the delight in seeing lives impacted and changed.”

They shared examples of children experiencing simple joys for the first time, individuals breaking cycles of addiction, and families building healthier, more stable futures.

“To encounter a kid at camp who’s never enjoyed a home-cooked pot roast meal; to experience a child’s response to an act of kindness; to see the cycle of addiction broken; and consequently, being established with a good job, a home of their own, and building healthy, loving relationships; is incredibly fulfilling.”

Codington Connects is grateful for the work Midwest Bible Camp continues to do to support and strengthen our community.
