Agency of the Month: Human Service Agency (HSA)

In Partnership with Watertown School District Through Project SUCCESS

Codington Connects is proud to recognize the Human Service Agency (HSA) in partnership with the Watertown School District through Project SUCCESS as our Agency of the Month.

Established in 1962, the Human Service Agency has been serving Codington County and surrounding communities for nearly six decades. Their mission is to support individuals and families through prevention, education, and treatment services that strengthen well-being and resilience. Over the years, HSA has remained committed to meeting the evolving needs of our community while staying grounded in collaboration and compassionate care.

One way HSA brings its mission to life is through Project SUCCESS, which began in Watertown schools in 2011. Through this partnership, prevention and support services are integrated directly into the school setting at Watertown Middle School. This approach allows students to access prevention education, skill-building groups, screenings, and individual support in a familiar and accessible environment.

Many people are surprised by how seamlessly these services are embedded within the school day. By reducing barriers and offering early intervention, Project SUCCESS helps students succeed both academically and emotionally. It reflects shared values between HSA and the school district — student-centered care, early support, strong relationships, and meaningful collaboration between schools, families, and community partners.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this work is watching students build confidence, develop healthy coping skills, and recognize that they have trusted adults supporting them. Meeting students where they are and connecting families to community resources creates lasting, positive change.

Human Service Agency’s partnership also reflects the heart of Codington Connects. Codington Connects is more than a network of services — it is a collaborative system of care that strengthens relationships, improves coordination, and helps meet needs early before challenges escalate. Together, agencies like HSA help ensure that youth and families feel supported, connected, and valued.

We are grateful for the Human Service Agency’s decades of service and their continued commitment to prevention, partnership, and community well-being. Their work makes a meaningful difference in the lives of students, families, and our entire community.
