Darcy Woertink is a Renal Social Worker at Prairie Lakes Healthcare System. She has helped patients receiving kidney dialysis for 20 years. Her service is top-notch, evidenced by her designation as the 2023 Platinum Winner of Prairie Lakes’ customer service award program called “Circle of Excellence”.
Darcy brings not only her professional experience to Codington Connects, but her experience as a community member and knowledge of the community from her service as a board member for three non-profit organizations.

Renal Social work offers the unique opportunity to work with individuals on an ongoing basis, which affords me the ability to really get to know them as individuals as we work together toward goals. I also appreciate the variety within my job.
How has the way your job is done changed over the years?
Needs have intensified over the years. The healthcare social work field has become increasingly outcomes-focused with ongoing assessment and interventions to work toward improvement in functioning and quality of life as goals.
Who or what inspires you in your work?
My faith and my patients inspire me. The human spirit is amazingly resilient, and I’ve learned a great deal as a result of my career in the social work profession.
What new thing would you like to learn or try?
I’d love to take a photography class. I’ve always been drawn to the documentation of life’s moments and the commemoration of memories that occur through photography.
What superpower would you choose and why?
I’d choose time travel as a superpower, because there are many historical periods and places I’d like to experience, as well as seeing cultures and civilizations throughout time. There are moments in time where life is forever changed, and it would be incredible to witness some of those events.
What is a dream that you want to make come true one day?
I’d like to live in a world with more compassion, kindness, and respect. If we all work to facilitate that in our little corner of the world, together we can create a ripple effect that touches humanity around us.
