Holidays in Codington County, 2023 Activities

It’s the most wonderful time of the year with the help of many volunteers and dedicated organizations. Check out some of the cheerful events and activities:
  • 27th Annual Holiday Lighted Parade (free)
    • Watch the lighted floats drive through Downtown Watertown.
    • Organization: Visit Watertown
    • November 24th at 6:30 pm
  • Winter Wonderland (free, donations welcome)
    • Look at the lights in Stokes-Thomas Lake City Park
    • Organization: Watertown Optimist Club
    • Dates: open Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights from 6 - 9pm, with the last night open is Christmas night.
      • Opening night: Saturday November 25th at 6pm.
  • Santaland (free, donations welcome)
    • Visit Santaland on 1 E. Kemp Ave and believe in the magic of Christmas.
    • Organization: Watertown Area Chamber of Commerce
    • Dates: Thursday (4 – 8 pm), Friday (4 – 8 pm) & Saturday (10 am – 4 pm), November 24 – December 23
  • Carnegie Christmas Market (free, donations welcome)
    • Organization: Codington County Heritage Museum
    • This event combines Christmas exhibits and children’s crafts and stories in the Museum with gift shopping and holiday food in an open-air market surrounding the Museum.
    • November 30 – December 3
  • Christmas by the Shore (free with donation)
    • Join the South Shore community for an evening of yuletide cheer and community spirit.
    • Saturday, December 2 | 4:00 - 6:30 pm, Old South Shore School
  • Holiday Open House & Market (free)
  • Breakfast with Santa at the Zoo
  • Community Christmas Concert (free, donations welcome)
  • A Fiddlers Holiday
  • Sherwin Linton’s Annual Christmas Show
  • Nutcracker Ballet
  • Hometown Holidays
    • Shopping local this season won’t only help boost our county’s economy, but can reward you as well.
    • Organization: Watertown Area Chamber of Commerce
    • Hometown Holidays stamp cards may be picked up at the Watertown Chamber office at 1 East Kemp Ave (corner of Kemp & Broadway) Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm
  • Christmas Cookie Decorating, Ornament Making & More
  • Holiday Activities at the Library (free)
  • Park & Rec Activities
    • Too many sugar cookies? If you need the kids to burn off some energy indoors, join Watertown Park & Rec at the Fieldhouse December 1, 8 and 15 from 3:30-6:30pm for Fun Friday.  $5 for youth ages 2-12.

Holiday Support

The holidays are magical, but can be stressful. Many faith-based organizations and churches offer support this season. In November our featured agency of the month is The Salvation Army.
