Meet Jessi Whetsel, a Licensed Professional Counselor-Mental Health (LPC-MH) and the heart behind Better Together Counseling. Jessi has dedicated her career to walking alongside others through life’s most challenging moments — and she finds deep fulfillment in doing just that. One of her favorite aspects of her work? The flexibility to set her own schedule, allowing her to show up fully for both her clients and her family.
Jessi brings a unique and vital perspective to the table at Codington Connects. She is passionate about trauma-informed care and helping others view the world through someone else’s lens. In every space she enters, she strives to advocate for those whose voices may not be present, ensuring that empathy and understanding are always part of the conversation.
Her professional journey has been rich and varied — from serving as a high school counselor to supporting therapeutic foster care and working on a college campus. These roles required her to wear many hats, and each has shaped her current approach as she focuses primarily on individual and couples therapy.
Jessi draws inspiration from thought leaders like Brené Brown, whose work in vulnerability and authenticity deeply influences her counseling philosophy. Spiritually, she connects with Richard Rohr’s teachings, which challenge her to go beyond the mind and body in pursuit of a fuller, more meaningful life.
Outside of work, Jessi values time spent laughing with her husband and two kids — a family where humor runs deep. She also holds a deep appreciation for lifelong learning and enjoys discovering new cultures and perspectives whenever possible.
