Individual of the Month: Sandy Kerkvliet

Posted: December 17, 2025
This month, we are pleased to recognize Sandy Kerkvliet, Supervisor at the Department of Social Services – Economic Assistance, as our Individual of the Month. Sandy’s dedication, experience, and compassion make her an invaluable part of her team and the community.

What Sandy loves most about her job is being able to support her team and help customers access essential services. She shared, “I like that I am able to help my workers when they have questions. As a team, we can help customers with essential services. It is great to hear from our customers the impact our programs have had in their lives. Seeing the smiles on our customers’ faces and hearing the ‘thank you’s' is so uplifting.” Her focus on teamwork and personal connection ensures that every individual who connects with their department feels supported and heard.

When asked about the most important skill she brings to Codington Connects, Sandy said, “I have worked at Social Services for 17 years and am familiar with resources available for individuals. I can participate in groups and provide valuable information on how to help those in need in our community.” Her experience and knowledge of local resources help families access the support they need. Sandy draws inspiration from the good she sees in others and strives to help people recognize their own strengths.

Outside of work, she enjoys camping, playing cards and board games, and riding on the motorcycle with her husband. She also shared a personal dream: “My dream is to have a cure for Type One Diabetes as both my children are Type One Diabetics.” She also mentioned one thing she cannot live without: “Cats. They bring me comfort.”

Sandy’s experience and dedication to both her team and the community make her a valued member of the Department of Social Services. We are happy to feature her this month!
