Individual of the Month: Shannon Barker
Marketing Specialist – Prairie Lakes Healthcare System
This month, Codington Connects is excited to feature Shannon Barker as our Individual of the Month! Shannon is a Marketing Specialist at Prairie Lakes Healthcare System. She brings passion, energy, and connection to everything she does.
When asked what she loves most about her job, Shannon says “Every day brings a variety of things to do – projects to execute, new people to meet and connect with, community organizations to partner with. I love people and I love creating new ideas and solving challenges – this job allows me to do all of that!”
At Codington Connects, Shannon’s impact is noticed. Her ability to connect people and ideas stands out, helping local organizations collaborate in ways that they may not have considered. She says “I know a lot of people, and I know how to get things done. I’m all about ‘thinking outside of the box’ and fully subscribe to the idea that ‘everything is ‘figure-out-able’’”.
Her role has evolved significantly over the years – from overseeing traditional marketing to leading community events and forming an employee-based volunteer group that helps PLHS give back to the community when and where it’s needed. She also continues to navigate through the rapidly changing world of social media marketing, ensuring that their message reaches the right people at the right time.
When asked what inspires her in her work, she says “Seeing what other individuals are doing to make our neighborhood, our community, our country, and our world a better place. We all have talents and watching others use those talents and interests for good, just for the sake of doing it, is inspirational – it’s what we should all strive for.”
Looking at her future dreams, Shannon hopes that her dream of having a retirement home on the beach will come true. She also mentioned a few things that she can’t live without: Her husband, her cat, and really good authentic guacamole!
Thank you Shannon for everything that you are doing and continue to do in our community!
