Mental Health Awareness Month: Go Green, Get Creative!

Posted: May 8, 2025

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness, breaking stigma, and encouraging open conversations about mental wellness. Mental health affects everyone, and this month is a powerful reminder that we all have a role to play in supporting one another and ourselves.

One meaningful way to participate is through the Mental Health Month Art Contest. Artists of all ages are invited to share what mental health means to them, or how they care for their own mental well-being, through visual art. Whether it’s a painting, drawing, digital design, or mixed media, your art can be a voice for hope, healing, and awareness.

Contest details:

  • Deadline to submit: May 14, 2025, by 5 PM
  • How to submit: Upload a photo of your artwork to the MH Buysse Facebook page or drop it off at the Watertown Police Department
  • Age categories:
    • Elementary (4th grade and under)
    • Middle/Intermediate (5th to 8th grade)
    • High School (9th to 12th grade)
    • Adult (18 and older, out of school)
  • Prizes will be awarded, and selected artwork will be featured in a special online gallery

Also on May 14th, join us for Green Day—wear green to show your support for mental health awareness and post a photo on social media using the hashtag #WTNGOGREEN4MENTALHEALTH. Let’s fill our feeds with messages of encouragement, support, and unity.

This month is a chance to remind ourselves and others that mental health matters. Through art, action, and awareness, we can reduce stigma and build a more compassionate community.

You’re not alone. Your story, your art, and your voice can make a difference.
