The (SD DOH) Office of Child & Family Services includes both Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) and Public Health Nursing programs, each providing a variety of services and resources to residents in the Codington County area.
WIC is a supplemental nutrition program federally funded through the Department of Agriculture. Did you know WIC started in South Dakota in 1974?
WIC offices across the state continue to support eligible participants with nutrition education, nutritious foods, and services to ensure the well-being of mothers and young children.
Trained staff are available to meet with participants at a minimum of three times per year. Specialized breastfeeding experts and certified registered dietitians are also available to meet client needs.
Public Health Nursing Services include professional nursing staff, who provide services and resources to promote healthy lifestyle choices. Services include:

- Pregnancy & Postpartum Education and Health Promotion
- Health & Safety Information
- Infant Safe Sleep Education
- Growth & Development Screening
- Oral Health Assessments & Fluoride Varnish application
- Breastfeeding Education & Support
- Linking individuals and families to community resources
- Bright Start Home visiting program
- Screening for blood pressure, vision, and hearing
- Other nursing services
