Housing

The Watertown Housing Initiative began with a shared vision—ensuring everyone in our community has a safe place to call home. Our first major milestone came to life through the creation of Emergency Housing. With the establishment of Watertown Cares and the purchase of 612 Flats, funded by a grant from the South Dakota Housing Development Authority’s ARPA (COVID) funds, we turned compassion into action and opened doors for those in need.

That success laid the groundwork for something bigger. Key Stakeholders have joined together to take the next bold steps in addressing housing needs across our community.
Through open dialogue and diverse community voices, we identified four key priorities that will shape Watertown’s housing future:

  • Single-Family Workforce
  • Multi-Family Workforce
  • Student Housing
  • Redevelopment, Rehabilitation & Infill
  • Transitional & Supportive Housing
  • Accessory Dwelling Units
These priorities reflect our community’s heart and determination—to create opportunities, strengthen connections, and ensure that Watertown continues to be a place where everyone belongs and can thrive.
